Mark Holmes Awarded CBE in King’s Birthday Honours

16 June 2025

We are proud to share that Mark Holmes, Group Board Chairman of Macro, has been named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours List for his outstanding services to the construction industry.

Mark’s contribution to the sector has spanned more than three decades, with the honour also recognising his work as Co-Chair of Infrastructure Exports UK (IE:UK), where he has championed the role of UK businesses in delivering major international projects.

A lasting impact on the industry

Mark joined Mace, Macro’s former parent company, in 1992 as its 30th employee. Over the next 31 years, he played a pivotal role in the Group’s growth, helping to establish new businesses and service lines - including what has evolved today into Macro, a global facilities management and workspace services provider.

His leadership was instrumental in launching Mace’s North American business, its entry into the public sector, the development of Mace Operate, and the creation of its graduate and talent programmes. Mark also helped shape the Group’s sustainability and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) strategies - priorities that remain central to Macro today.

A platform to make a difference

Speaking about the honour, Mark Holmes CBE said:

“I certainly didn't enter this great industry of ours to seek recognition — in fact, I’ve tried to avoid it most of the time. So, when others think you are worthy of such recognition, I am immensely humbled and proud to be honoured in this way.

This industry has given me a fulfilling and rewarding career, Mace and Macro have given me the platform to make a difference. I hope that wherever I’ve worked, I’ve left a positive legacy and influence on the people I’ve worked with.”

A message from Ross Abbate, CEO of Macro

“On behalf of the entire Macro team, I want to congratulate Mark on this incredible achievement. His vision, integrity, and passion for this industry have shaped Macro into what it is today.

Mark has always led by example - his commitment to our people, our clients, and our wider communities continues to inspire us all. His CBE is not only recognition of his career, but of the positive impact he’s had on countless people across the sector.”

Continuing to drive positive change

Today, Mark continues his work as Group Board Chairman of Macro, following the company’s management buy-out in 2023. Under his guidance, Macro continues to deliver world-class facilities management and workplace services across the globe, while championing sustainability, innovation, and social value.

Mark also serves as Chief Executive of the Mace Foundation, which has donated over £10 million to charitable causes worldwide since its inception in 2011. Beyond his work with Macro and Mace, he is a Trustee of the Edward Gosling Foundation, supporting individuals on low incomes living with long-term illnesses or disabilities.

We are proud to have Mark’s leadership and values at the heart of Macro, and we congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition.
