Meet Sarah Chronkhite, FM coordinator, North America

Two years into her career in facilities management, Sarah Cronkhite has already earned a WaveMaker award, launched a wellbeing programme for Macro's North American team, and built a globally used inventory and budget tool. Here, she shares the mindset and values behind the work.

Tell us about yourself and your current role.

I've been in facilities management for two years. In my role, I support day-to-day operations, coordinate with clients and vendors, and help ensure workplaces run smoothly. I enjoy being in a role that is people-focused, fast-paced, and driven by problem-solving.

Describe a typical day in your work life.

No two days look the same, which is one of the things I enjoy most about facilities management. One day I might be handling administrative tasks like data entry and emails; the next I could be assisting with event coordination or supporting the resolution of a facilities issue such as a plumbing or maintenance matter. The constant throughout my day is interacting with people and providing support to ensure issues are addressed efficiently and professionally.

How do you deal with pressure or stressful situations?

I manage pressure by prioritising tasks and focusing on what needs immediate attention. Even in high-pressure situations, I rarely feel overwhelmed because I stay organised, break tasks down into manageable steps, and avoid overcomplicating challenges. This approach allows me to stay calm and effective.

Who have been your strongest influences in life?

My family has had the greatest influence on my life. I grew up in a strong support system that encouraged me to be authentic, stand up for what is right, and communicate openly. Those values continue to guide both my personal and professional life.

What led you to your current career path?

I found my way into facilities management unexpectedly, but quickly realised it was a great fit. Through previous roles, I discovered that I enjoy working with people and solving problems. Facilities management allows me to do both, while continuously learning and expanding my skill set in new and challenging ways.

What are you most proud of accomplishing?

I am most proud of helping to spearhead the wellbeing initiatives at Macro, specifically serving as Wellbeing Lead for our North American team. Being able to bring my passion for fitness and wellbeing into the workplace, and share that with colleagues across North America, has been incredibly fulfilling.

What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?

Being early in my career, one of my biggest challenges has been establishing trust and credibility. Over time, I've learned that consistency, follow-through, and a strong work ethic are the most effective ways to demonstrate capability and earn the confidence of others.

If you had the chance, what would you do differently?

I would have trusted my abilities and spoken up with confidence sooner. I've learned that sharing ideas, even early on, contributes to stronger collaboration and personal growth.

What are the most important life lessons you've learned?

One of the most important lessons I learned came from my mum at a young age: you can't control how others behave, but you can control how you respond. Choosing to approach people with positivity and kindness has had a lasting impact on how I navigate both life and work.

What's something about yourself that you want to improve?

I am always working to further develop my leadership skills, particularly around communication and confidence in decision-making. I value continuous learning and see growth as an ongoing process rather than a destination.

What do you like about Macro?

Macro encourages employees to be themselves, and that openness is reflected by its leadership team. I value working in an environment where authenticity is supported and individuals are empowered to bring their full selves to work.

What do you enjoy most about your current role at Macro?

I enjoy problem-solving for clients. Whether an issue is small and routine or more complex, being able to find solutions and genuinely help people is extremely rewarding.

How do you drive for a better way?

I drive for a better way by staying curious, remaining open to feedback, and continuously looking for opportunities to improve processes. I believe there is always room for growth, whether through small efficiencies or new ideas that enhance the way we work together.

What has been your proudest achievement at Macro so far?

My proudest achievement at Macro has been creating an Excel-based inventory and budget tracker to help our team globally track usage, reorder points, and budget visibility. The tool has improved demand forecasting, reduced stockouts, and supported more predictable purchasing decisions across the business.

What motivates you every day?

I am motivated by the idea that I can make a positive difference in someone's day or work experience. Knowing that my efforts help people feel supported and valued keeps me going.

What skills do you need to be good at your job?

Strong multitasking and prioritisation skills are essential. There are often many tasks happening at once, so being able to manage competing priorities while delivering consistent, high-quality support is key.

What does your WaveMaker award mean to you?

The WaveMaker award means a great deal to me because it reflects the effort and passion I bring to my work. Knowing that my team at Macro recognises and values my contributions is incredibly motivating and affirming.
