From managing facilities across the building to supporting tenants during busy events, her role sits at the heart of the workplace experience. With a background spanning the Police, Immigration, and healthcare management, she brings empathy, humour, and calm under pressure to everything she does. Tell me about yourself and your current role.
My current role is a workplace host on the Assura account. My day is very varied; I look after the whole building dealing with any issue that may arise. I’m in charge of all facilities within the building. I help with PPM’s and breakdowns for all the other sites Assura have by complete jobs off the concept system. I also log jobs on the system and assign then to the supplier.
Describe a typical day in your work life.
I look after all the tenants in the building and helping them when they have any big events.
How do you deal with pressure or stressful situations?
My way of dealing with pressure or stressful situations is I talk to my work colleagues so I can off load anything I have found challenging. I am very lucky to have a great support system within Macro. My go to in many situations is laughter and humour, it’s a great way of destressing.
Who have been your strongest influences in life?
My strongest influences in life would be my parents as they would instil wisdom and the belief you can do anything you want to do. Also, my husband, friends and work colleagues.
What led you to your current career path?
I have worked for the Police, Immigration in my earlier career. In my last job I was a manager of five clinics which I enjoyed, and I loved leading different teams and also getting the best out of people within those teams and clinics. I was going to made redundant, so I wanted something different and where I was client facing as that’s what I am good at and I came across this position at Macro.
What are you most proud of accomplishing?
My most proud thing I have accomplished is having my own children but also donating my eggs to my sister-in-law so she could have children. I did warn her at the time that her children would have my genetics, but she carry on regardless of my defects Lol. She has two boys from the egg donation process.
What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?
The biggest challenge in my career is when I was successful in becoming a manager, which I never thought I would become. I do lack confidence due to me being Dyslexic but really nothing should hold you back, so I went for it and I surprised myself how good I was at being a manager.
If you had a chance, what would you do differently?
If I had the chance to go back to my younger self and do thing differently, I would be more confident in my self worth and ability and not allow others to dull my sparkle.
What are the most important life lessons you’ve learned?
Never allow people to make you feel your voice isn’t heard or opinions aren’t valid, I believe we all have something different to give to any situation.
What’s something about yourself that you want to improve?
I want to improve my self belief. Macro has helped me in so many ways and I want to carry on building that.
What do you want to do next?
I would like to learn new skills and help others achieve their goals with the help of knowledge I have learned along my career journey.
What do you like about Macro?
Well where do I start?! I love that fact that everyone in the company from the CEO down is supportive and friendly. All the Wellbeing ideas and sharing experience that life throws at us and helping others navigate them. It’s a team effort and its genuine and heartfelt.
What do you enjoy most about your current role at Macro?
The most enjoyable thing about my current role is that I meet lots of people every day. I love talking to them and finding out where there from and making those people feel welcome and making them smile. I like how the role is different every day.
What has been your proudest achievement at Macro so far?
My proudest achievement at Macro is getting a WaveMaker award. I was lost for words that someone had taken the time to write such lovely things about me and the company recognised that.
What motivates you every day?
What motivates me every day is making sure everyone is greeted with a smile and helping people. I try and drive for better by sharing knowledge and supporting others where I can.
What skills do you need to be good at your job?
The skill you need to do my job is having a big personality and the love of meeting people from all walks of life. Also making sure you have great organisational skills and be able to spin two maybe three plates at once.
What does your WaveMaker award mean to you?
It means everything - validation I am doing a great job and more importantly I have that amazing support from my colleagues.
